Je ne vais pas faire un traité sur l'autostop
ici, enfin en tout cas pas pour l'instant. Ca fait à peu près un an que
je ne voyage pratiquement que comme ça,
avant tout pour des raisons environnementales ; je pollue moins comme
ça qu'en prenant le bus ou le train, mais même qu'en faisant du
co-voiturage. Imagine : tu hésites entre faire ce trajet en train et en
voiture. Si tu trouves quelqu'un sur un site de covoiturage pour
partager tes frais et ton trajet, alors la voiture devient moins chère
et plus agréable que le train. Je serai ta raison de choisir un moyen
de transport plus polluant. Si je n'étais pas allée chercher du
covoiturage, tu aurais pris le train, et je serais montée, sur le bord
de la route, dans le véhicule de quelqu'un qui n'a (ne prend) pas le
choix de son moyen de transport (par exemple un commercial, un
chauffeur de camion, etc).
Pour des conseils pratiques, une mine d'information sur hitchwiki, quoiqu'évidemment, la base d'articles soit beaucoup plus riche en anglais (bin vous avez qu'à m'aider à traduire, aussi !). Un petit tribut à tous ces conducteurs (et ces quelques rares conductrices) qui m'ont prise et qui ont été si gentils (qui m'ont prises et qui n'ont pas eu peur)... Parce qu'il y en a plein, et qu'en regardant -leurs photos-, je souris et j'ai envie de repartir !
Other people talk about hitchhiking well enough to avoid me another essay here. Hitchhiking has been my almost exclusive way of traveling for a year now. My main reason is environment - my impact on pollution is close to zero when i do so - better than bus or train, but better than carpooling (lift-sharing) too. Imagine: you're hesitating between train and your own car to go somewhere. If you find someone to share the ride and the costs, your car becomes cheaper and more comfortable than the train: I will be the reason you chose a more polluting means of transportation. Without me trying to share a ride, you would have taken the train, and I, with my thumb, would have ended up sharing the ride of someone who doesnt (want to) get a choice, like a truckdriver. I would still understand if you prefered sharing a ride - the only efficient such website i've heard of so far is the german one, mitfahrgelegenheit (in German).

And a small tribute here to all those drivers who took me and were so nice to me (despite having been raised male), or were not afraid or a dirty vagabond (despite having been raised female). When i look at -their pictures-, i just smile and want to go traveling again...
